Koffiefontein Diamond Mine is based in the town of Koffiefontein, located 100km from Kimberley and 136km from Bloemfontein.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Shiftboss, the role will be responsible to control the ore extraction process to ensure optimal
utilisation of people and equipment to obtain production and safety targets.


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Responsible to conduct start of shift waiting place procedure i.e. safety meetings and general communication to team.
 Perform risk assessments (Activity Based and Mini) and PTO’s in line with company Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safe
Work Procedures (SWPs) and standards.
 Enforce and ensure that people wear the correct PPE at all times.
 Responsible for examining, making and declaring workplaces safe and healthy for work.
 Responsible to make unsafe areas safe and where not possible the area to be barricaded and reported to supervisor for
further evaluation and appropriate action to be taken.
 Ensures that the necessary safety precautions are taken before detonating explosives.
 Monitor and maintain a safe and healthy working environment in the work place.
 Responsible for testing, monitoring and controlling gases.
 Responsible for ensuring the implementation of ventilation layouts and the maintenance and compliance of proper ventilation
standards underground.
 Ensure adherence to related legislation and company policies, procedures and COP’s.
 Conduct general massive mining operations (i.e. Development Drilling and Blasting, Long Hole drilling & blasting, secondary
blasting, production loading, draw control compliance, allocation of machinery and equipment, management of people) to
obtain the required production targets.
 Supervise and execute blasting operations such as controlling of explosives, preparing working face for blasting, charging up
of face and sites, conducting blasting and treating misfires.
 Responsible for day to day reporting, planning, controlling, leading and organising repairs and breakdowns.
 Control the utilisation of allocated resources (i.e. People, machines and equipment).
 Responsible to inspect materials, products or equipment to detect defects / malfunctioning and report to CCR/Supervisor
accordingly.
 Responsible to operate machinery and equipment in area of responsibility as and when required.
 Responsible to install, maintain, support and remove temporary support in mining excavations.
 Identify deviations or non-conformances, plan and implementing corrective actions to ensure attainment of the production plan.
 Takes cognisance of and adhere to Company policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Manage and report on non
compliance issues.
 Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company Safety, Health and Environment Vision and Values. Manage and report
on non compliance issues.
 Ensure that all Mining reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
 Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the Mining Function.
 Supervises subordinates in the designated area.
 Effective Team Player and Effective Self-Management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
 Blasting Certificate OR National Certificate Rock breaking Underground Hard Rock Level 3.
 A minimum of 2 years relevant mining experience after obtaining a blasting certificate.
 Computer Literacy & Microsoft Office Suite.
 Valid Drivers’ License.
ADVANTAGEOUS:
 Drill Rig Operator (Production Type Rig as per operational requirement).

 Conduct primary and secondary rock breaking operations in a safe and proper manner in accordance with legislation
requirements.
 Control the utilisation of resources
 Demonstrate understanding of explosives handling.
 Identify hazards or potential hazards and follow the appropriate procedures.
 Have knowledge and skill in adhering to occupational safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and legislative
requirements.
 Licensed and be able to operate machinery and equipment under area of control.
